"For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in the one Spirit we were all baptized into one body - Jews or Greeks, slaves or free - and we were all made to drink of one Spirit." (1 Corinthians 12:12-13)

Adelphi Presbyterian Church is a multicultural, inclusive, and Christ-centered community of faith. With her warmth and hospitality, Adelphi is home to an increasingly diverse membership. Adelphi is like a preview of the Kingdom of Heaven, woven together by people from different racial and cultural backgrounds, including people from Asia, Africa, Caribbean Islands, and good old blacks and whites. We are white collar, blue collar, professors, students, parents and foster parents, young and old, male and female....

People with different social, cultural, and faith backgrounds sit next to each other in worship, share a conversation over ice cream social, and pass peaceful hugs to one another in the fellowship hall. Through the grace and love of God, the dividing walls that so characterize our society are being torn down at Adelphi. Yet, we are not perfect. We continue to learn to be one body in Christ, to be witnesses of God’s love and justice in the world, and to grow to know God and to know who we are.

We are also proud of our Presbyterian heritage, rooted in the Reformed tradition. Central to this tradition is the affirmation of God's sovereignty over our lives. We affirm the majesty, holiness, and providence of God, who creates, sustains, rules, and redeems the world in the freedom of sovereign righteousness and love. We also believe that the church is the covenantal community called together by God to be God's witnesses in the world through both word and deed.
